Elucidating the dynamics of polymer transport through nanopores using asymmetric salt concentrations

چکیده

While notable progress has been made in recent years both experimentally and theoretically understanding the highly complex dynamics of polymer capture transport through nanopores, there remains significant disagreement between experimental observation theoretical prediction that needs to be resolved. Asymmetric salt concentrations, where concentrations ions on each side membrane are different, can used enhance rates prolong translocation times electrophoretically driven polymers translocating a nanopore from low concentration reservoir, which attractive features for single-molecule analysis. However, since asymmetric affect electrophoretic pull inside outside pore differently, it also offers useful control parameter elucidate otherwise inseparable physics process. In this work, we attempt paint complete picture symmetric conditions by reporting dependence multiple metrics voltage, length, gradient. Using conditions, observe predictions tension propagation theory, infer impact electric field capturing altering conformations prior translocation.

Dynamics of polymer translocation through nanopores: theory meets experiment.

The dynamics of translocation of polymer molecules through nanopores is investigated via molecular dynamics. We find that an off-lattice minimalist model of the system is sufficient to reproduce quantitatively all the experimentally observed trends and scaling behavior. Specifically, simulations show (i) two translocation regimes depending on the ratio of pore and polymer length, (ii) two diffe...

Langevin dynamics simulations of polymer translocation through nanopores.

We investigate the dynamics of polymer translocation through a nanopore using two-dimensional Langevin dynamics simulations. In the absence of an external driving force, we consider a polymer which is initially placed in the middle of the pore and study the escape time tau(e) required for the polymer to completely exit the pore on either side. The distribution of the escape times is wide and ha...

Influence of ionic concentration on transport properties of single asymmetric nanopores in polymer films

It has been demonstrated that cone-shaped nanopores with charged surfaces are cation selective, and, for the same magnitude of applied voltage, show preferential cation flow from the narrow entrance to the wide opening of the cone [1]. Presently, there are two models which describe this nonlinear current-voltage characteristic seen in polymer nanopores. The first model focuses on the presence o...

Controlling molecular transport through nanopores.

Nanopores are emerging as powerful tools for the detection and identification of macromolecules in aqueous solution. In this review, we discuss the recent development of active and passive controls over molecular transport through nanopores with emphasis on biosensing applications. We give an overview of the solutions developed to enhance the sensitivity and specificity of the resistive-pulse t...

Analysis of electrolyte transport through charged nanopores.

We revisit the classical problem of flow of electrolyte solutions through charged capillary nanopores or nanotubes as described by the capillary pore model (also called "space charge" theory). This theory assumes very long and thin pores and uses a one-dimensional flux-force formalism which relates fluxes (electrical current, salt flux, and fluid velocity) and driving forces (difference in elec...
